Made in Canada, Jerden JRCD 7005THE ELVIS TAPES is a collection of rare interviews with Elvis during his first North American tour. Recorded in Vancouver, Canada in August 1957 and Memphis, Tennessee in 1961. Includes liner notes by Red Robinson. Had Elvis Presley done nothing else but record "That's Alright, Mama," his place in pop music history would be secure. With his first regional hit, Presley fused rhythm and blues with country, put a handsome white face out front for audiences to see, and in so doing legitimized beat music for white audiences. It is no understatement to call Presley the chief catalyst of the rock-and-roll era. During the 1950s, Presley's records spent a collective 53 weeks in the number one chart position. Only the Beatles can boast similar sales success. Presley's monumental accomplishments continued until his untimely death in 1977. After a stint in the Army, he spent a decade making profitable but forgettable movies. Then in 1968 he reestablished his artistic relevance with a spectacular television special and several great albums. During the last decade of his career, Presley's live show was the hottest ticket in America. A great singer first and last, Presley was equally adept at raunchy blues, lilting boogie, operatic pop, and country tear-jerkers. Our system is based on a conversative visual inspection as follows:Mint: Absolutely perfect in every way, we would only use this grade with a sealed itemNear Mint: No obvious signs of play/wear. VG+: Some signs of play, possibly some slight scuffs or very light scratches that shouldn't affect listening experience. VG: Possible surface noise upon play, light scratches. Good: Plays fine without skipping but has surface noise, scratches and/or visible groove wear. Label and sleeve condition is noted within the item description. Label scans are for detail only, we do not have a high detail scanner, show image often shows worse than item actually is!We do not list poor/fair condition vinyl (although as yet we haven't even come across one in this condition in this collection!) unless very rare or highly collectibleWe do not know how the purchased item will sound when played by the buyer. We can only make reasonable inference on the record's condition based on its visual appearance. The buyders should be cautioned that every buy carries a risk that the purchased item will underperform, or play worse than its visual grade may indicate. In addition, play-grading standards are utterly subjective: one buyders light, tolerable surface noise is another buyders unbearable, degrading clatter.
