EXPLOSION DURANGUENSE is a compilation album that brings together some of the brightest lights of the movement, including Brazeros Musical, Los Brujos de la Sierra, Isabela, and Conjunto Matador.Stylistically, Duranguense often recalls traditional Mexican music, with instrumentation that includes accordion, brass, and tambora (a big bass drum with a cymbal on top), yet the pace is faster, sometimes frantic. With its rustic themes (about rural life in Durango) and accompanying dance (dancers keep their feet in the same place but move their hips from side to side), Duranguense is a fun, accessible cultural touchstone for Mexican Americans and Mexicans alike.
